The Shota Rustaveli State University ( Georgia შოთა რუსთაველის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტი ) is a university in southwest Georgia city of Batumi . The university has existed in its current form since 1990 and emerged from the Batumi Pedagogical Institute, which was founded in 1945. Today it has five faculties with around 5,000 students.

The university is named after the medieval Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli .
