The State Gallery of Würzburg in the north wing of the Würzburg Residence has shown part of the Bavarian State Painting Collections since 1974 .

Venetian paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries as well as other pictures that are closely related to the Venetian painting of this era are presented. Special exhibits are works by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and his son Giandomenico, which were created during their Würzburg years. The location of the exhibition is also intended to tie in with the ceiling fresco in the stairwell of the Würzburg residence .

Premises

The north oval gallery hall was set up as an opera theater under Prince Bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim in 1770 , but was only used as a theater hall for about 20 years. It then found various uses until it was redesigned into a gallery in 1931/32.
