The State Theater for Young Audiences of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic ( Latvian Latvijas PSR Valsts Jaunatnes teātris ) was a drama theater. It was founded in Riga in 1941 and dissolved in 1992 in favor of the New Riga Theater .

history

The theater opened shortly after the establishment of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (LSSR or LATSSR). The first directors were Rūdolfs Baltaisvilks and Emīlija Viesture . In addition, Baltaisvilks was appointed director and artistic director of the theater. Another co-founder was Marija Miezīte , who later worked as the head of the repertoire department and the ensemble.

The theater business paused during the Second World War . He was resumed after the liberation of Riga.

From 1946 there were two ensembles in the theater - a Latvian and a Russian ensemble, which appeared in separate performances.

In 1955 the theater was renamed and from then on bore the name of the Leninsky Komsomol Youth Union . In 1969 the theater was awarded the Badge of Honor of the Soviet Union .

From 1989 to 1992 it was called "The Youth Theater". After the contract for the conversion was signed in 1992, the youth theater dissolved in its previous form. The premises at Bärentöterstrasse ( Lāčplēša ielā ) 25 were taken over by the New Riga Theater.
