Stick sausages

The stick sausage (also called Messwurst ) is a typical regional form of the fine Rostbratwurst that is produced in the Nördlinger Ries .

Traditionally, stick sausages are consumed at the Nördlinger Stabenfest , a children's festival in May that dates back to 1406 and is therefore the oldest children's festival in Germany. The word part refers to bars decorated with flowers, which are carried by children when moving through the city.

Bar sausages are also offered at the Nördlinger Whitsun Mass , then usually under the name of Messwürste .

Defatted pork, stripped young beef, pork cheeks and various spices are used to make the sausage. Short sausages are grilled raw.
