Tigre Makonnen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tigre Makonnen ( Ethiop . ትግራይ መኮንን , Prince of Tigre ) was a dignitary in imperial Ethiopia and was originally carried by the administrator of the province of Tigre . In the 16th century he was subordinate to twelve districts and thus authorized him to lead twelve Negarit . Since Tigre was one of the most important provinces of Ethiopia, the Tigre Makonnen held one of the most important positions in the state. From the 17th century the meaning of the title decreased steadily and was finally only an honorary title. Later the administrators of the areas in North Tigre carried this title, which then corresponded to the dignity of a Fitawrari .
