Lomen Stave Church

The Lomen stave church is one of the preserved stave churches in Norway . It is located in the village of Lomen in the municipality of Vestre Slidre in Innlandet . It is believed that the church was built in the second half of the 12th century. With the help of dendrochronology , the origin was dated to the year 1179. The first written sources (under the name Hvams kirke ) come from the years 1325 and 1334.

The church was rebuilt and enlarged in 1779. It was in liturgical use until 1914 when the new church in Lomen was built. This is about 2 km north of the stave church.

With the raised interior, the stave church belongs to type B.

The interior of the church is supported by four bars, there are three carved portals, arcades and pillars with capitals. During the last restoration of the church, archaeological excavations were carried out and 71 objects were found; among other things jewelry and coins. Some of the coins date from the 12th century.
