Stack Exchange
Stack Exchange is a network of question websites, each of which covers a variety of specialist topics. The principle of these websites is that users of the community can ask questions about a specific problem, which in the best case scenario will be answered satisfactorily. The most famous website within Stack Exchange is Stack Overflow .
history
In 2008, Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky founded Stack Overflow, a questionnaire for programmers. A year later, the two realized the Stack Exchange 1.0 platform project , a tool for third-party providers that could be used to create pages similar to Stack Overflow. This form of the white label was initially not well received, so this project was not considered successful.
It was not until November 2010 with the publication of Stack Exchange 2.0 , a site that used algorithms and user contact to collect topics for new specialist sites, that the success slowly came. Until January 2011, Stack Exchange tested the concept with the pages physics (physics website), maths (mathematics website) and writing (website for writers). After that, Stack Exchange went public with 33 different websites.
In March 2011, the company called Stack Overflow Inc. to Stack Exchange Inc.
Reward system
Stack Exchange is known for its reward system. If a user asks questions, answers questions, receives good reviews from other users or is recognized for an answer, his reputation increases (internal reward points). Users can also lose reputation due to negative reviews. From a certain number of points, the user receives so-called awards and privileges . While the "awards" are primarily cosmetic awards in the profile, the user receives additional page rights through "privileges". These include additional comment rights, editing rights, property rights, etc.
