Stack Island is an island in the Bass Strait between Australia and Tasmania .
location
Stack Island is located northwest of Tasmania in the Fleurieu Group . King Island lies between this group of islands towards the Australian continent . The distance to the Tasmanian coast is 5.32 km, the nearest town on Tasmania is Woolnorth and is 9.5 km away. It is subject to a relatively strong tidal range .
The island is 954 meters long and 350 meters at its widest point, its highest point is 54 meters above sea level and it has an area of approx. 0.15 km².
fauna
Breeding seabirds on the island are among other dwarf Penguin , short-tailed Shearwater ( Puffinus tenuirosris ), Pacific Gull , Silver Gull , sooty oystercatcher , black-faced cormorant , greater crested tern and Tern ( sterna nereis ). Mammals are only represented by a small number of rabbits and gold-bellied swimming rats .
