Staging (database)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Staging is a process or area of information integration in which data is temporarily stored or processed in a data area (staging area, the staging area or assembly point in the military) in order to clean, transform or migrate it there. After the cleansing, transformation or editing step, the data is pushed into a target database or into a production environment.

Staging in the ETL process

Staging is typically used when implementing an ETL process . This process serves data from a number of operational databases into a central database - often a data warehouse (data warehouse) - merge. There the data can be accessed using methods such as a. OLAP , data mining , text mining can be analyzed.

Staging area

The data is first extracted from the data sources ( e xtract) and collected in the staging area and buffered. There the data is cleaned up (cleanse, scrub) and transformed ( T ransform). The thus processed data is finally transmitted from the staging area in the target database ( L oad).
