Statue of the Imperial Knight Hartmut XII. from Kronberg

The statue of the Imperial Knight Hartmut XII von Kronberg is a listed zinc cast figure in Kronberg im Taunus . It shows the Imperial Knight Hartmut XII. von Kronberg and was the last work of the sculptor Eduard Schmidt von der Launitz, who died in 1869 . It is made using the zinc casting process and shows Hartmut roughly twice life size in full armor, leaning on his sword.

The statue was commissioned by the entrepreneur Jacques Reiss (1807–1887), who wanted to express his ties to the town of Kronberg, of which he had become an honorary citizen in 1864. The statue had its place in a niche in the facade of his Villa Schönbusch, which had been built on a spacious property north of the then city of Kronberg. The knight's upward gaze was directed at Kronberg Castle, which was within sight , the historic headquarters of the Kronberg family .

After Reiss's death, Empress Friedrich acquired the Schönbusch Villa in 1888, had it laid down and the Friedrichshof Palace built in its place . On November 21, 1889, her 49th birthday, she gave the statue to the city of Kronberg, which honored this with a ceremony with a reception at what was then the Frankfurter Hof inn in the presence of 83 city dignitaries. The statue was set up in the Kronberg school garden , where the knight's gaze was again directed towards the castle. After the school was demolished and Berliner Platz redesigned, the statue was restored in 2005/2006, with the inner supporting iron frame and the sword straightened and reassembled. The statue was then mounted at the current location on the staircase of Kronberger Höfe on Berliner Platz, again with its face facing the castle.
