Standpipe water meter

Standpipe water meters are a combination of a standpipe and a water meter . They are used to take water from hydrants , whereby the amount of water taken is measured. The standpipe is connected to underground hydrants when in use, there are usually various connections (hose couplings, water tap) available. So that no water can flow back into the network in the event of pressure fluctuations, the standpipe water meters are usually equipped with a backflow preventer . So that the water does not remain in the pipe after use (hygiene), the standpipe usually has a pipe vent at the upper end . Since the water meter is generally used for billing purposes (in business transactions), it is subject to calibration .

use

The withdrawal of water from hydrants (with the exception of extinguishing water ) is chargeable, the amount of water withdrawn is measured with a water meter attached directly to the standpipe.

For water supply at z. B. construction sites, events etc. you can borrow a standpipe water meter from the local water supplier or the municipality. The meter reading when the meter is received and returned is noted and serves as the basis for calculating the costs. Municipal service providers who need water for their tasks (irrigation, street cleaning, etc.) usually have standpipe water meters with them.

Types

Depending on the flow, the standpipe water meters are equipped with water meters with a nominal flow of 2.5 m³ / h, 6 m³ / h, 10 m³ / h or a maximum of 15 m³ / h.
