Martin Anton von Puttkamer

Martin Anton von Puttkamer (born August 14, 1698 in Barnow ; † September 9, 1782 on Gutwohne near Oels ) was a Prussian major general and heir to Gutwohne.

Life

He went into Prussian service and on January 12, 1715, became an ensign in Infantry Regiment No. 24 (Schwendy).

He got permission from the governor of Silesia, Count von Schafgoth , to advertise there, which he did very successfully. As a result, he caught the attention of King Friedrich Wilhelm , who made him captain . On August 30, 1730 the king made him baron when he wanted to marry a Silesian baroness.

King Friedrich II made him commander of the fusilier regiment. On July 18, 1745 he became a colonel .

In 1741, as a major , he commanded a grenadier battalion, which consisted of the grenadier companies of the Fusilier Regiment. With them he operated very successfully in the Silesian wars . In 1742 he became the commander of the 42nd Infantry Regiment

In September 1750 he was dismissed as a major general at his request. He went to his estates as highly valued by the king, where he died in 1782.

Martin Anton von Puttkamer came from the well-known noble family of Puttkamer , who lived in a castle in Pomerania . His parents were the heir to Waldau, Barnow and Reinfeld , as well as 1/2 Wobeser and part of Alt Kolziglow Henning Brand von Puttkamer (* May 6, 1641 - February 2, 1720) and Barbara Marie von Puttkamer (* April 7, 1670 ; † February 18, 1750) from the Zettin family .

He was married to Helene Dorothea von Schönaich . The couple had a son and two daughters who both died early.
