Thomas "Tom" Chorlton (* 1882 in Heaton Mersey , Stockport ; † March 4, 1948 ) was an English football player who played for Liverpool in the early 20th century .

life and career

Chorlton first played for All Saints FC, Northern FC, Stockport County and Accrington Stanley before he was signed by Liverpool manager Tom Watson in May 1904. He made his debut in the Football League Second Division on September 24, 1904, and scored his first goal for Liverpool on October 29, 1904. Chorlton spent most of his early days at Anfield as a supplementary player, allowing him to only play twelve games in his first season and came to 27 games in the following three seasons.

It was not until the 1908/09 season that Chorlton established himself as a regular player and played in 35 games. The following season, Chorlton played as the only Reds player in all games. He started the 1910/11 season as a regular player with seven appearances in ten games, but lost his regular place shortly afterwards. For a while, Chorlton was the club's penalty taker. Chorlton joined Manchester United in 1912 as one of the few players to have played for both rivals. He ended his career at Stalybridge Celtic. His brother Charlie Chorlton was also a professional footballer.
