Stealin 'Horses

Stealin 'Horses is an American country band who released their debut album of the same name in 1988.

Band history

In the early 1980s, the Kentucky band Radio Café made a name for themselves playing clubs and events in the American Midwest and Southeast. When the time came to choose music as a full-time job, only singer and lyricist Kiya Heartwood and drummer Kopana Terry took that step. They renamed the band 'Stealin' Horses' after an ancient tribal ritual and soon after went to Nashville to sign a contract with Castle Studios. The studio organized a number of gigs to promote the band while Terry and Heartwood recorded the songs for their debut album, which was due to be released on Arista Records . The label, however, found the pieces to be inadequate, so the band traveled to Los Angeles to work with some studio musicians such as guitarist Steve Lukather ( Toto ) or keyboardist Jai Winding under the direction of producer Greg Ladanyi . During the recording, Neil Young joined the band and contributed the harmonica to some of the songs. In 1988 the debut album 'Stealin' Horses' was released on Arista Records, followed by the LP 'Mesas and Mandolins' released in 1991.
