Stefan Kadelbach (* 1959 ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

From 1979 Kadelbach studied literature and law at the University of Tübingen . In 1984 he passed his first state examination there after moving to the University of Frankfurt am Main . This was followed by his legal clerkship, which he completed in 1987 with the second state examination. After a research stay at the Hague Academy for International Law in 1986 and a master's degree at the University of Virginia , he obtained the title of Master of Laws there in 1988 . After his return to Germany, Kadelbach received his doctorate in 1991 from the University of Frankfurt am Main with a thesis on international law supervised by Manfred Zuleeg . iur. In 1996 he completed his habilitation and received the venia legendi for the subjects of public law, European law and international law.

From 1997 he held the full chair for public, international and European law at the University of Münster . During this time he held visiting professorships at the University of Virginia, the European University Institute in Florence, the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow and the Chuo University Tokyo . In 2004 Kadelbach switched to the chair for public law, European law and international law at the University of Frankfurt am Main, which he has held since then. He has also been a member of the board of directors of the Normative Orders Cluster of Excellence since 2004 .

Kadelach's research focuses primarily on foreign state law, federalism and multilevel systems, fundamental and human rights as well as general and humanitarian international law. In addition, Kadelbach is the author of numerous articles in specialist journals and handbooks on international law.
