Stefan Tewes (economist)

Stefan Tewes (born May 14, 1980 in Oberhausen) is a German economist and professor for digital transformation and innovation at the FOM University of Economics & Management , headquartered in Essen. He is also the head of the appointment committee for business administration. In his role as managing director of REALYZE IT, he focuses on the development and transformation of business models.

Life

Stefan Tewes studied economics at the Mercator School of Management, Lander University (AASCB acc.) And the University of Duisburg-Essen with a focus on organizational psychology and development as well as e-business and e-entrepreneurship. In his subsequent activity, he was a research assistant at the Laboratory for Organizational Development (Orglab) and at the Institute for Cultural Studies Essen (KWI) - the inter-university college of the Ruhr University Bochum, the Technical University of Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen from 2008 to 2012 . During his work as a research assistant, he led various research projects (e.g. Erasmus curriculum development within the EU Higher Education Initiative (HEI) Project, Lifelong Learning Program, Education and Culture DG, NRW / EU Objective 2 program). During this time he was, among other things, an appraiser for the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and a member of the expert commission of the national forum for engagement and participation.

Stefan Tewes received his doctorate at the Institute for Psychology in the field of work and organizational psychology. In his dissertation "The System Dynamic Coding Method" he developed a research method for the exploration of complex models based on qualitative research logic and cybernetic and system-theoretical models.

Between 2013 and 2017 he was the managing director of two communication and consulting companies that are active in the field of digital and analog communication and organizational development. In addition, he was also a lecturer at various universities (including the University of Duisburg-Essen, EC Europa Campus Frankfurt).

In 2017 he was appointed professor for organizational development at the FOM University of Economics & Management, specializing in business models & digital transformation. He is the overall head of the "Digital Transformation" and "Process & Digital Change" specializations as well as the Germany-wide head of various modules in the areas of: Business Model Innovation, Business Transformation, Digital Management, Entrepreneurship and Future Skills. Furthermore, he is part of the research group "Digital Transformation and Digital Entrepreneurship" at the isf (Institute for Strategic Finance). At the end of 2019, his denomination was changed to "Professor of Digital Transformation and Innovation". Since 2020 he has been responsible for the “Digital Transformation” university certificate. He is also the technical coordinator of the digital courses in the business & management department at the headquarters in Essen. As part of Summer Studies 2020 at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS), Stefan Tewes was visiting professor for "International Entrepreneurship" until January 2020.

In addition to his work as managing director of REALYZE IT, he is also involved as a digital and transformation expert in various start-up and transformation projects (e.g. MoreThanDigital.info, EWG - Essener Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft mbH or Wirtschaftsförderung Bochum WiFö GmbH). His activities include keynotes, keynote speeches, workshops and advice in the context of digital transformation. In addition, he works as a reviewer for various journals: PURPLSOC World Conference, zfwu - magazine for economic and corporate ethics and MTD-Journal (President of the Editorial Board).

Research priorities

Stefan Tewes' research focuses in particular on the areas of business models, digital transformation and future thinking. Currently, the development of the Future Business Model, which systemically considers the development of future-proof business models, guides action. This includes, on the one hand, the development of a roadmap for digital transformation and, on the other hand, a methodical approach to converting trends into corporate success. The approach particularly focuses on the interdependence between the various building blocks of a business model. In addition, the research activities include the approach of real corporate learning and the further development of organizational learning.
