The little stone in the spa park is a listed war memorial in Bad Laasphe in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The stone was inaugurated in 1927 as a memorial to those who fell in the war. The victims of the Second World War were also immortalized there with a plaque.

In 1981 the Citizens Action Group Schöne Altstadt (BAG) became active against the plans of the city of Bad Laasphe to tear down the memorial. An international music festival was held in 1984 to preserve it. The renovation was financed together with donations.

In January 2017 it was named Monument of the Month in South Westphalia by the Working Group on Historic Towns and Towns in North Rhine-Westphalia .

building

The building stands on a round square about 26 meters in diameter. A twelve meter wide trench was dug around the square.

Previous plant

In front of the memorial there was a "land guard", a watchtower that was built around 1350. There is no known graphic evidence of this. A large part of the former complex was destroyed by the construction of the stone. The pre-existing facility is dated to the second half of the 14th century. Only a moat and a wall are partially preserved.
