Stone houses yard

The Steinhäuser Hof , also known as Kuby'scher Hof , in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is probably the oldest surviving Palatinate civil courtyard from the 13th century. The property, which now consists of seven buildings, was rebuilt several times in later epochs. The Gothic main building dates back to 1276 and is the oldest town house in Neustadt.

The Steinhäuser Hof is located in the northwest of the city center of Neustadt in the former Jewish quarter, opposite the town hall, not far from the market square, with a view of the towers of the collegiate church .

history

The so-called Gothic House, probably the oldest part of the property, is a three-storey building made of rubble masonry , which is crowned with a stepped gable. Dendrochronological studies have shown that it was created around 1276. It is one of the oldest preserved stone patrician houses in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The mighty gable main building at Rathausstrasse 6 is a half-timbered house on a solid base. The three-storey building carries a split into two levels gable of 1787. The roof is covered with slate and the windows are with ornate sandstone jambs provided.

The date of 1570 is certain for the gatehouse and the western part was probably built in 1587. The east and rear buildings, the arcade building and the stair tower complete the facility.

The gate, a three-storey, gable-independent half-timbered building from the Renaissance, was built for Jerg Ziegler, it is richly decorated: a lion's head at the top of the archway, head reliefs , a coat of arms, carved plastic ornaments and curved St. Andrew's crosses in the window parapets.

The property was initially used as the “Zum Löwen” inn, later as the “Zum Goldenen Löwen” inn. Later it was named Kuby'scher Hof after the owner family Kuby.

The listed ensemble was refurbished from 1985 to 1993 as part of the renovation of the old town; in 1993 the German Foundation for Monument Protection was involved in completing the structural work for the second construction phase.

Todays situation

The picturesque courtyard complex, which is important in terms of the history of the city and art, is now used mainly by the hospitality industry. The oldest part, the so-called Gothic House, houses a wine bar and vinotheque. In the part behind, the Neustadt wedding hall is located on the first floor . At the back of the courtyard, formerly a farm building, there is a restaurant and hotel. The courtyard is used for open air events of the Jazzclub-NW eV.
