Stela by Lauris-Puyvert

The anthropomorphic Neolithic stele of Lauris-Puyvert ( French Stèle de Lauris ) in the Vaucluse department approximates the shape of the statue menhirs and is the most famous stele in Provence .

The Lauris stele kept in the Musée Calvet in Avignon testifies above all to the spread of the Lagozza culture in this area at the end of the Neolithic.

The small stele was made from an approximately 6.0 cm thick limestone slab in the format 32 × 15 cm and shows the stylized face typical for the representation on statue menhirs.
