Sonia Darrin
Sonia Darrin (born Sonia Paskowitz on June 16, 1924 in Galveston , Texas , † July 19, 2020 in New York City ) was an American actress . She became famous in 1946 for the role of Agnes Lowzier in Dead Sleep .
Life
Sonia Darrin was born in 1924 to Russian immigrants in Galveston, Texas. She had two brothers, including the doctor and surfer Dorian Paskowitz (1921-2014). Darrin took dance lessons with a renowned choreographer, who took her to the set of the adventure film Blood Revenge and thus gave her an extra appearance. Darrin received additional film roles through an audition with the choreographer and dancer LeRoy Prinz . She was also seen as an extra in Die Ewige Eva in 1941 . In the years that followed, Darrin appeared in mostly uncredited roles in major Hollywood productions. These included the musical The Queen from Broadway and the war film The North Star . She acted in a total of twelve films.
Darrin made her best-known film appearance in 1946 as the femme fatale Agnes Lowzier in the film noir classic Dead Sleep tight at the side of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall . Although she played a major supporting role in this film, she was not mentioned in the credits there either. She was the last surviving actress from the film since Dorothy Malone's death in January 2018. Darrin made her last television appearance in 1975 with her son Mason on the Mike Douglas Show . Then the actress retired into private life. In 2007 she was interviewed for a documentary about her brother Dorian Paskowitz.
Darrin was married with four children, including actor Mason Reese . She lived on the Upper West Side in Manhattan and died of natural causes in July 2020 at the age of 96.
