The Stendersche Glasfabrik was a company founded in 1792 in Glashütte near Lamspringe in Lower Saxony .

It was a glassworks that goes back to a forest glassworks founded by the Lamspringe monastery in the 18th century . It was located in the extensive wooded area of the Westerhof monastery forest, which borders the Heber ridge . The Waldglashütte was soon closed due to marketing difficulties.

In 1792 Johann Friedrich Stender from Ziegenhagen resumed glass production in the monastery forest. While the firewood came from the surrounding forests, quartz sand was brought in from Bornhausen . The products of the Stender glass factory were white hollow glass and light green medical glass, beverage glasses, bottles, preserving jars, glass bowls and laboratory equipment. In some cases, it was high-quality glassware that was exported to other European countries and overseas by ship via the Port of Hamburg .

Former glassworks building

The glassworks had up to 80 employees who were making good earnings at the time. In 1883 13 houses with 27 company apartments were built for the employees near the hut . The glassworks gave the new settlement its name. In 1910 she received a school, which was closed in 1960. The Stender family of manufacturers lived in a mansion next to the factory. In 1914 the hut was closed due to sales problems and the employees lost their jobs. Two of the hut's glass painters went into business for themselves and founded a glass painting company . The former factory building, the manor house and individual half-timbered houses have been preserved from the glassworks to this day. The houses with the former company apartments are privately owned, while the land is owned by the Hanover Monastery Chamber .
