Glashütte is part of the Lamspringe community in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Glashütte is located around 4 km east of Lamspringe on the L 466 state road to Rhüden in the Schlörbach valley .

history

In the 18th century, the Lamspringe monastery founded a forest glassworks . It was located in the extensive wooded area of the Westerhof monastery forest, which borders the Heber ridge . The Waldglashütte was soon given up due to marketing difficulties.

In 1792 Johann Friedrich Stender from Ziegenhagen resumed glass production in the monastery forest and founded a glassworks with the Stender glass factory . The Glashütte settlement, for which the company was named, emerged from it. In 1883 13 houses with 27 apartments were built for the employees near the hut. In 1910 the settlement received a school, which was closed in 1960. The Stender family of manufacturers lived in a mansion next to the factory. In 1914 the hut was closed because of sales problems.

The glassworks was always a popular destination in the area. Today the district has around 80 inhabitants and is a small settlement in which there are several holiday homes due to the idyllic location. The former workers' houses have been restored and more residential buildings have been built. A forester's office is located in the school. The glassworks, which have been vacant for a long time, and the mansion of the hut are in need of considerable renovation.
