Rhüden is a district of Seesen in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony (Germany) and is about 6 kilometers from the edge of the Harz .

geography

The place is located on the western edge of the Harz Mountains or east of the Heber ridge on the Nette river and also between Bornhausen and Bornum .

Local division

In addition to the former districts of Groß Rhüden (western part) and Klein Rhüden (eastern part of today's core town), the Ober- and Unterpanshausen residential areas and parts of Ödishausen also belong to Rhüden.

history

The first documentary evidence for Rhüden can be found between the years 826 and 853. The place was divided over 700 years by a division of the Ambergau in the 13th century . This finally created the two communities Groß Rhüden and Klein Rhüden, which were incorporated into the town of Seesen on March 1, 1974. In 1976, both places were combined to form the Rhüden district.

Presumably this area was already inhabited in the Bronze Age, because researchers discovered numerous finds from this era here. Settlement has only been documented since the first half of the 9th century. At that time the place was probably created as part of the Christianization of the native Saxons by the Franks. The original marshland was drained and made usable for humans.

In the period from 1685 to 1865 the place also lived from the salt spring. The eight percent brine came from a 30 foot (about 10 m) deep well. The graduation tower was 1046 feet in length; two pans measured 20 × 14 × 8 feet. Up to 300 tons of evaporated salt were extracted annually.

The Rhüden potash plant (Carlsfund trade union) was built in the years from 1893 onwards on the same salt deposit that produced the salt spring, and it lasted until the mid-1920s. The houses on the "colony" date from this time, they were built as company apartments for the miners of the potash plant.

Economy and Infrastructure

Rhüden is on the federal highways 243 and 82 as well as the federal highway 7 (junction 66 Rhüden ).

Traditionally, the place offered jobs to some craftsmen in addition to farms and part-time businesses. Alongside Münchehof, Rhüden is a sub-center of the city of Seesen. However, the majority of Rhüden's residents commute to work in the surrounding areas.

Religions

In Rhüden there is the Protestant Church of St. Martini , built in the 19th century, belonging to the Gandersheim-Seesen Provostry. It was built between 1885 and 1888 according to plans by Conrad Wilhelm Hase in the neo-Gothic style on the site of a previous building that was destroyed by fire in 1834. The picturesque sandstone church has a 53 meter high church tower and seats around 400 people inside.

The Catholic Church of St. Oliver was built in 1976. In 2007 it was profaned and today it is used by the Rhüden von 1901 eV music association as a clubhouse. The nearest Catholic churches are now approx. 8 km away in Bilderlahe , Seesen and Bockenem (Hildesheim district).

The next New Apostolic Church is in Seesen.
