In the Middle Ages, the church was assigned to the Archdeaconate Seesen in the Diocese of Hildesheim . After the Reformation , the archdeaconate became superintendent in 1568 and the patronage passed from the Hildesheim bishops to the Brunswick dukes .

On July 1, 1972, Engelade was incorporated into the town of Seesen. Before the incorporation into the city of Seesen, the place belonged to the district of Gandersheim .

The ev.-luth. The parish today forms a parish association with Herrhausen am Harz (Goslar district) and Dannhausen ( Northeim district ), which belongs to the Gandersheim-Seesen provost in the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig .
