Location of Mechtshausen in Lower Saxony |
Mechtshausen is a village that belongs to the town of Seesen am Harz . It is on the eastern edge of the lift .
The place is known from Wilhelm Busch , who spent his old age here in the former rectory and after his death in 1908 found his final resting place in the village cemetery. The place is still shaped by Busch today. A museum was set up in his honor in the old rectory, in which, in addition to his works, his living and working rooms can be viewed. There is a statue of Max and Moritz in front of the church and Busch's grave is located in the cemetery. In Seesen you can also find traces of the poet. There is a life-size bronze statue of Wilhelm Busch in the city center and a sculpture with Max and Moritz is in front of the town hall .
On March 1, 1974, Mechtshausen was incorporated into the town of Seesen.
