Coordinates: 46 ° 0 ' N , 100 ° 0' E
The Bajanchongor aimag ( Mongolian Баянхонгор Аймаг ) is an aimag (province) of Mongolia , which extends from the western center to the south to the Chinese border.
geography
The Bajanchongor aimag extends over very different types of landscape. In the north it occupies part of the Changai Mountains . To the south there is a plain with several salt lakes. This is followed by a section of the Gobi-Altai Mountains . And finally the Trans-Altai- Gobi plain follows up to the Chinese border .
There are many hot springs in Changai, with temperatures up to 50 ° C. The most famous of these are near Shargaldschuut , about 60 km northeast of the aimag capital.
Most of the lakes are in the central plain. Since this level has no drain, it is always salt lakes. The largest of these are the Orog-Nuur and the Böön-Tsagaan-Nuur .
The highest peak of the Aimag is the Ichee-Bogd in the Gobi-Altai. In contrast to the forested Changai, these mountains have a dry desert climate. Like the adjoining Gobi, it is therefore only very sparsely populated.
traffic
Bajanchongor Airport (ZMBH / BYN) has two runways, one of which is paved. It is served by regular domestic flights to and from Ulan Bator.
