The Dorno-Gobi-Aimag ( Mongolian Дорноговь Аймаг , East Gobi ) is an aimag (province) of Mongolia , located in the southeast of the country. The province consists mainly of arid highlands and is on average over 1000  m . Persistent droughts and severe sandstorms make human settlement difficult. Of the approximately 54,000 inhabitants, over a third live in the provincial capital of Sainschand . In the most sparsely populated Sum (district) Mandach, only 1,648 people live on 12,700 square kilometers. The area is rich in mineral resources, particularly fluorspar and coal , and possibly petroleum .

The Aimag's coat of arms shows a dinosaur behind a flame , which points to the important fossil finds in this region.
