The Bulgan Aimag ( Mongolian Булган Аймаг ) is an aimag (province) of Mongolia , located in the north of the country on the Russian border. The city of Bulgan is the seat of the aimag administration .
Historical
In the valley of the Tolbor River , a tributary of the Selenga , stone tools almost 45,000 years old were discovered at the Tolbor-16 site .
geography
The Aimag is adjacent to the Aimags Chöwsgöl in the northwest, Archangai in the southwest, Öwörchangai in the south, Töw in the southeast, and Selenge in the northeast. The small Orkhon aimag around the mining town of Erdenet forms an enclave on the border with Selenge.
The north of the Aimag is characterized by alpine forest areas, which in the south merge into the arid steppe plains of the central Mongolian highlands. The main rivers are the Orkhon and Selenge , which flow from the Archangai Aimag into the Selenge Aimag. They make the south of the aimag part of the agricultural area of Mongolia.
traffic
Bulgan Airport (ZMBN / UGA) has at least one paved runway. It has regular flights to and from Ulan Bator and also serves as a stop for some of the western aimags.
