The Ömnö-Gobi-Aimag ( Mongolian Өмнөговь Аймаг 'South Gobi-Aimag' ) is an aimag (province) of Mongolia , located in the south of the country in the Gobi desert on the Chinese border. The capital is Dalandsadgad .

Ömnö-Gobi is home to several well-known tourist attractions, such as the flaming rocks of Bajandsag , the Gobi Gurwan Saichan National Park and the singing dunes of Khongoryn Els .

economy

The aimag is rich in natural resources such as coal, gold and copper . At the beginning of the 21st century, great efforts are made to develop the infrastructure in order to be able to tap the rich raw material deposits of Tawan Tolgoi (coal) and also Ojuu Tolgoi (copper, gold). In addition to mining, cattle breeding dominates here (400,000 goats, 290,000 sheep, 130,000 camels, 70,000 horses). 7,000 tons of camel hair and 130 tons of cashmere wool are exported every year.

traffic

The dalanzadgad airport (ZMDZ / DLZ) has a dirt airstrip and, since 2007, have a paved runway. It is served by regular flights to and from Ulan Bator . There are also private airports in the districts of Chanbogd and Tsogttsetsii throughout Aimag, which were built in connection with the Tawan Tolgoi and Ojuu Tolgoi mining projects and are served by the national airlines Eznis Airways and Aero Mongolia .
