Khongoryn Els is a dune field in the Gobi Desert in southern Mongolia . It lies in a narrow valley running from north-west to south-east in the Gobi-Altai Mountains with a length of 80 km and a width of three to five kilometers. There is a continental climate with mean temperatures of −15 ° C in January and +20 ° C in July, and an average annual rainfall of 130 mm. There are singing sand and mega dunes that are more than 100 m high.
