history

Münchehof village square with tree and fire station

The name is derived from the medieval monks' court, a branch of the Walkenried monastery . The Cistercian order smelted the ores of the Goslar Rammelsberg in the nearby Pandelbach valley .

In 1345 the "Mönchehof" was laid out in the area of the village in order to accommodate steel mill products and equipment. A village was only mentioned around 1512/13.

In the Thirty Years' War , large parts of the town were destroyed during the battle of Lutter am Barenberge on August 26, 1626. The place was rebuilt and again included 44 houses in 1692.

In the post-war period, Münchehof had the highest population with 2500 inhabitants. Until July 1, 1972, the place belonged to the district of Gandersheim . On the date mentioned, Münchehof was incorporated into Seesen and lost its status as an independent municipality.

coat of arms

The Münchehöfer coat of arms shows on a green background together with silver battlements (in the upper area) an elongated half-timbered house with a Cistercian monk behind it, who carries the cross of 'Saint Anthony' in his right hand. The justification for the coat of arms provides the links to the district for this pictorial content. The crenellated beams refer to the nearby Stauffenburg ; the other representations reflect the fact that the Cistercian monastery Walkenried once owned land and forest properties in the area of the former village of Münchehof and also built a trading yard for the local mining and smelting companies. The monks play a role in the coat of arms because they built a chapel dedicated to St. Anthony. The design for the coat of arms was developed by W. Krieg and K. Helburg. In cooperation with the Münchehöfer Heimatverein, the draft was slightly corrected and adopted as the local coat of arms by a resolution of the local council in October 1990.

A public bus runs every two hours to Bad Gandersheim and Seesen. Alstom Coradia LINT trains run every hour as RB 46 from Braunschweig Hbf via Seesen to Herzberg (Harz) , where there is a connection to Nordhausen , Northeim and Göttingen . The station and the entire railway system were modernized in 2016 for around 1.4 million euros. In the past, it was possible to cross tracks 1 and 2 in the passenger station in Münchehof . Since the scheduled crossing was relocated to Gittelde / Bad Grund, track 1 in the passenger station was removed. Today only platform 2 still exists and crossings occasionally take place in the event of delays in the freight yard.

To the south of the passenger station there are sidings and sidings for freight traffic; in 2017 there are three through tracks and seven sidings. The Fels-Werke (lime works) have several sidings on it.
