The Church of St. Oliver was the Catholic church in Rhüden , a district of Seesen in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony . It belonged to the parish of St. Michael with its seat in Bilderlahe , in the Deanery Alfeld-Detfurth of the Diocese of Hildesheim . The church, named after St. Oliver Plunkett , was located at Maschstrasse 17. The nearest Catholic churches are now around eight kilometers away in Bilderlahe, Bockenem and Seesen.

history

In 1976 the foundation stone was laid and the church was built. Before that there was a Catholic service in Rhüden in the Protestant St. Martini Church.

On April 28, 2007, the profanation by Bishop Norbert Trelle took place . In 2008 it was sold, today the building is used by the Musikverein Rhüden von 1901 eV as a club house.

architecture

The church was built as a prefabricated concrete church with a free-standing tower and integrated community rooms and was around 132 meters above sea level . The tower cross and the bell were removed after the profanation, otherwise the external appearance of the church has remained largely unchanged since the profanation. The way of the cross came to the church of Maria Königin in Seesen.

A number of other churches of this type were built in the Diocese of Hildesheim, for example in 1969 in Altenwalde and Sudmerberg , 1970 in Dungelbeck , Meckelfeld and Poggenhagen , 1971 in Afferde , Hohegeiß , Luthe , Meine , Schwanewede and Winsen (Aller) , 1972 in Gifhorn , Ronnenberg , Stederdorf and Wittingen , 1974 in Vorwerk , and 1975 in Dransfeld , Münchehof and Rodenberg .
