The Sternberg Astronomical Institute ( Russian Государственный астрономический институт им. П. К. Штернберга (ГАИШ) , Eng. Gaish ), named after Pavel Shternberg , is a research institute of the Moscow State University in Moscow .
The institute was founded in 1931 on the site of the university's observatory. The asteroid (14789) GAISH , discovered in 1969, is named after him.
