A Stethoclip (or Stetoclip ) is a device that the hearing care professional uses to monitor hearing aids .

functionality

The Stethoclip is similar to a stethoscope , a strap of metal or plastic and a flexible hose . This is placed on the bracket of the hearing aid to test the hearing aid for function and sound . As a result, almost the same sound can be heard that the hearing aid wearer would hear. With the help of an IO adapter, the Stethoclip is also suitable for in-the-ear devices .

Designs

There are different designs of the stethoclip as well as the IO attachment.

Stethoclip

The simple stethoclip consists of a plastic bracket to which a thin tube is attached. Higher quality stethoclips consist of a metal bracket with rubber attachments that come into the ear , the attachment of the sound tube varies.

There are also different versions of the adapters : a simple rubber adapter that is pushed onto the hose and a somewhat more stable adapter made of plastic and rubber that is pushed into the hose.

method

With a BTE (behind-the-ear device) , the sound tube of the stethoclip is inserted into the ears over the angle of the hearing aid and the rubber studs of the bracket; An adapter is used with an IO (in-the-ear device) . After switching on the device, the sound is transmitted through the sound tube and the bracket to the listener's ear. Some devices can damage the ears of a normal hearing person due to the extreme amplification . There are also volume dampers on some stethoclips or dampers that are inserted between the stethoclip and the device. With weaker devices, kinking the hose is often enough. A language test by the hearing aid acoustician tests the functionality and checks whether the device is performing at its best or whether it is defective.
