Stieda-Pellegrini-Koehler shadow

The Stieda-Pellegrini-Koehler shadow is an ossification at the origin of the inner ligament of the knee joint . It is a radiological sign of a previous injury to this very ligament. The resulting hematoma calcifies and appears as a dense bone shadow in the X-ray image . This is to be distinguished from the much rarer bony tear of the ligament.
