Campos Oliveira
Campos Oliveira ( José Pedro da Silva Campos e Oliveira ) (born April 17, 1847 in Ilha de Moçambique , Mozambique ; † January 1, 1911 ibid) was a Mozambican poet and is considered the first Portuguese-speaking writer in Mozambique.
biography
His biographer Manuel Ferreira is unsure whether Campos Oliveira was of African, Indian or Portuguese descent. Only his mother's name, Ana Maria da Silva Campos, is known, but she died when her son was only five years old. It is believed that he was brought to Margao , Goa , India as a child and later studied law there. While still in Goa, his literary career began with publications in magazines. After returning to Mozambique around 1866, he continued to publish poems and essays in various magazines. Campos Oliveira worked as a secretary in the administration of Ilha de Moçambique and as a postal director. In 1888 he discovered and published previously unknown verses by the poet Tomás Antônio Gonzaga (1744–1810).

The 31 surviving poems of Campos Oliveira are romantically influenced. At this point in time, romanticism had actually long since been superseded by other styles, but the movement had already arrived on the Iberian Peninsula later than in Central Europe and, due to the great geographical distances, even later in the colonies overseas.

- Ode sáfica
