José María Vallé
José María Vallé (also El Chelón ) (* 1810 ; † in San Juan del Norte ) was a liberal general in Nicaragua at the time of the Filibustero pirates under William Walker .
Life
José María Vallé was a member of the Partido Democrático . From 1844 to 1845 Vallé took part with Bernabé Somoza in the defense of León (Nicaragua) in the Guerra de Malespín , where he proposed that the “Gran Mariscal” Casto Fonseca be replaced by José Trinidad Cabañas . Fonseca, feeling offended by the suggestion, put Vallé into retirement and suspected cabañas.
After the Liberals' defeat in León, Vallé was imprisoned in San Juan del Norte prison and Bernabe Somoza in El Castillo de la Inmaculada prison. Both agreed not to rest until the conservative regime, which was then called the Partido Republicano , was overthrown. In June 1849, the government of Norberto Ramírez Áreas declared war on the insurgents, led by Generals José María Valle and Bernabé Somoza.
Fruto Chamorro Pérez had three members of the Partido Democrático arrested after his appointment as Supremo Director in early November 1853 . He then had José María Valle, Máximo Jerez Tellería , Francisco Castellón Sanabria and Mateo Pineda deported to Honduras .
In Honduras, José Trinidad Cabañas had meanwhile become president, as such he supported the group, equipped them with weapons and had them return to El Realejo via the Isla del Tigre in the Gulf of Fonseca on a US steamer under the command of Captain Gilbert Morton where they arrived May 5, 1854 and marched on León . Fruto Chamorro Pérez fled from León, the stronghold of the Liberals, to Granada (Nicaragua) and also wanted to have the seat of government moved there. In October 1854, Francisco Castellón Sanabria signed a contract with the US military service provider Byron Cole for the delivery of 200 men, who were led by William Walker in June 1855.
Battle of La Virgen
On August 27, 1855, William Walker started with the Filibustero pirates from San Juan del Sur to Rivas . José María Vallé had meanwhile become deputy prefect of Chinandega and supported Walker's filibustiers with 120 indigenous people whom he had recruited. When the Filibusteros set off in El Realejo towards Rivas, the English Vice Consul Thomas Manning in León sent a messenger to Ponciano Corral Acosta in Managua and informed him of this.
Corral ordered Colonel Manuel G. del Bosque, a Spaniard who had lived in Granada for many years, to lead a troop that he would receive from Eduardo Castillo, the governor of Granada. This force consisted of 60 civilians with little armament. This troop drove with a schooner across Lake Managua from Granada to San Jorge in the Municipio Rivas, where they arrived at noon on June 27, 1855, hours after Walker and his "fanalge" of mercenaries and 110 soldiers of the Partido Democrático under the command of the Félix Ramírez Madregil, loyal to the coin, landed in El Gigante (11 ° 23 '0 "North, 86 ° 2' 0" West) in the Rivas (Departamento) .
José Santos Guardiola Bustillo had 600 soldiers marched to La Virgen on Lake Nicaragua and had them attack the front and flank of the Filibu animals there on September 3, 1855. At a ratio of 5/1, the Filibustiere and the troops around José María Vallé took up a defensive battle, after two hours the troops of the Partido Legitimista were defeated. Their losses were about 60 killed and 100 wounded. On the side of the Partido Democrático , three Nicaraguans were killed and a few filibustiers injured, including Charles William Doubleday. José Santos Guardiola Bustillo retired to Rivas. Guardiola and his troops brought cholera to Costa Rica .
Agustin Vijil later claimed that he had saved the life of Dionisio Chamorro Alfaro, who fell into the hands of General José María Valle on October 13, 1855. When Walker was picked up by the USMC , Tijerino Pomar had José María Vallé arrested and sentenced.
