Pin wire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pin wire , Glaziers pin wire is in the glazier trade a metal pin for fixing windows in wooden frames.

The pin wire, consisting of copper-plated steel wire with a diameter of 1.2 millimeters, is notched every 17 millimeters and is used for restorations, repairs and new glazing of wooden windows. Even with picture glass in picture frames or glass panes in door cutouts, if no strips are used, they are fixed and secured by the pin wire. The number to be struck per pane is determined by the size and thickness of the glass. The notches are always used to bend the last segment at right angles as preparation for hammering and as a predetermined breaking point after hammering. The wire is then broken off by bending it back and forth. It is hammered in with a glass hammer . Once the glass is fixed in the frame, the cement can be applied.

The glazier wire is usually delivered in 2 kg bundles. For finer work, the glazier pin wire is industrially notched every 14 millimeters.
