Penitential feud
A collegiate feud is a warlike dispute over the occupation of a diocese or archbishopric between two candidates or a dispute between different parties within a bishopric that was carried out by armed forces. The most famous collegiate feuds in Germany were:
- the Bremen collegiate feud (1258/59)
- the Hildesheim collegiate feud (1519)
- the Cologne collegiate feud (1473–1480)
- the Mainz collegiate feud (1461/62)
- the Munster collegiate feud (1450–1457)
- the Utrecht collegiate feud (1481–1483)
