Preußenhaus Foundation

The Preußenhaus Foundation was established in December 1933 with the official aim of “cultivating the idea of the Reich on the basis of the National Socialist worldview”, which was “thanks to the historical mission of Prussia aimed at realizing the unified Germany”.

A foundation as a pretext

The foundation was initiated by Hermann Göring , who from April 11, 1933 had held around 70 other titles as well as that of "Prime Minister of Prussia". Through his function, Göring had access to the former Prussian War Ministry on Wilhelmstrasse and planned to have his new Reich Aviation Ministry built in its place . In addition to this building, in which only offices were planned, he wanted to create a representative foyer for himself, in a sense his own Reich Chancellery. The foundation of the foundation was necessary because the building was owned by the Prussian state and the Prussian bureaucracy initially did not want to give up the building. In the preamble of the foundation's statutes, its right to use the functionless “Prussian House”, the state parliament complex between Leipziger Strasse and Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse (immediately adjacent to the new ministry) was therefore recorded. A substantive consensus between the foundation statutes and usage was never intended and never took place.

In February 1934, the state parliament complex became the property of the foundation and was given the name "Prussian House". The previous director of the Prussian state parliament Ernst Kienast was entrusted with the administration of the foundation .

Temporary use

Since Göring was initially unable to carry out any construction work on the Prussian House due to other obligations and the enormous costs of his new ministry, the foundation rented the buildings for conferences and meetings of Nazi organizations and associations close to the Nazis. From March 1934, the National Socialist Medical Association and the Political Office of the Supreme SA leadership became permanent tenants of some of the office space. In the plenary hall of the House of Representatives, the People's Court was founded on July 14, 1934 and initially became the main tenant. However, since the “court operations” of the People's Court overlapped with the lavish parties and balls in the building and all three main tenants often complained to the foundation management about mutual interference, the People's Court moved in early 1935 into the Wilhelmgymnasium building on Bellevuestrasse. Since Göring finally wanted to use the building for himself, he unceremoniously put all other tenants in front of the door.

End of the foundation

On April 1, 1935, the Foundation officially handed over the Prussian House to the German Reich, which handed it over to the Reich Aviation Ministry. Göring in turn left the building to the Aero Club of Germany, with which he was closely associated. After the renovation, the building was officially called the Aviator House. The Preußenhaus Foundation was dissolved by the Legal Entities Liquidation Act of 1965.
