from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Style rowing is rowing -Wettkampfdisziplin which was originally developed in the early 20th century for women, as these in the early days of rowing not rowing regattas were allowed to participate. Grace and grace instead of sweat and exertion. Because it was considered improper and medically highly questionable when women were active in sports.

history

Developed especially for women at the beginning of the 20th century, the last style rowing competitions took place in the 1970s. German championships in style rowing were held from 1937 to 1969 (in the Federal Republic) and 1963 (in the GDR).

Little by little, the old times are being revived today. For a number of years there have been style rowing competitions in a modernized form, for example at the International Lake Constance Week . Aesthetics and technical elegance are still in the foreground, but the route, the evaluation system of the choreography and the composition of the team have been redefined. Men can now participate in style rowing. But one thing remains: Uniform clothing is mandatory - be it traditional rowing clothing from the 1920s or fantasy costumes.
