Stop lane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In aviation parlance , a stopway ( SWY for short) describes an area beyond the runway that can be used as an additional braking distance in the event of an aborted take- off. She must:

  • be at least as wide as the runway
  • in the middle of the extension of the centerline of the runway
  • be able to support the weight of an aircraft during an aborted take-off without causing structural damage to the aircraft
  • be identified by the airport operator for braking after an aborted take-off.

The length of the stop distance available is referred to as the "Accelerate Stop Distance Available" (ASDA).
