Stork (fetter)

Stork in the museum

A stork is a metal shackle that was used in the Middle Ages . Its shape has similarities with the Danish letter Å . In the upper area there is a neck clamp , below it there are mountings for the wrists and below for the ankles (see picture). In contrast to being tied with chains , which restricts the freedom of movement but partially leaves it, a person who is tied up with a stork has practically no freedom of movement. This makes the stork one of the most rigid methods of restraint alongside the stick .
