Penalty throw (water polo)

A water polo penalty throw is a penalty for a player.

to read in § 340 of the water polo-specific part of the competition regulations of the DSV .

Throwing error

It must be recognized on a penalty throw for a team if

1. a player (apart from the defending goalkeeper in the five-meter area) of the defending team in the five-meter area tries to catch or fend off a pass or shot by the attacking team with both hands;
2. a player (apart from the defending goalkeeper in the five-meter area) in the five-meter area holds both arms out of the water and this shows that he is trying to block the attacking team's pass;
3. a player of the defending team touches the goal;
4. a player on the defending team fouls an attacking player and the referee assumed that the attacker could have scored a goal;
5. a player of the defending team pushes the ball under water under pressure from an opponent. The exception here is the goalkeeper who has parried a shot on goal and pushes the ball a little under water. However, if he is harassed by an opponent after the shot, this rule applies;
6. A player of the defending team hits or kicks an attacking player within the five meter area. The attempt is punishable. In addition to this penalty, that player must be given a suspension with no replacement .
7. a trainer takes unauthorized time off.
8. A player of the defending team (other than the defending goalkeeper) hit the ball with his clenched fist.
9. A coach tries to prevent a goal.

Penalty throw

1. It is forbidden to replace players between the imposition of a penalty throw and the execution of a penalty.
2. The penalty throw must be taken by a player on the team to whom it was awarded.
3. The penalty throw is taken from anywhere on the five-meter line (yellow).
4. The throw must be executed by the referee directly, immediately (i.e. not delayed) and in one movement after the whistle. The referee stands on the player's arm side.
5. The defending goalkeeper must stand on the goal line. If he is not on the goal line, the referee must direct him back to the goal line. If he is still not on the goal line, he must be excluded . A team defending player who is in the water at this time may represent the goalkeeper without the rights of a goalkeeper.
6. The person taking the penalty must be in possession of the ball.
7. The referee lowers his arm at the whistle, which is equivalent to the whistle.
8. If the penalty throw was carried out incorrectly, the penalized team continues with a goal clearance .
9. All players, with the exception of the defending goalkeeper, must leave the five-meter area and be at least 2 meters away from the person taking the penalty. Only players of the defending team are allowed to take position next to (2 m away) the shooter.
10. When a player interferes with the defending team and the shooter
a) does not score a goal, this player must be excluded with a replacement . The penalty throw must be repeated.
b) if a goal is scored, this player is excluded with a replacement .
