Exclusion (water polo)

The exclusion is a punishment in Waterpolo for one player.

Only exclusion errors are considered here that are

1. do not result in a game suspension;
2. There is no suspension with replacement and no suspension without replacement .
to be read in § 338 of the water polo-specific part of the competition regulations of the DSV .

Exclusion error

It must be recognized for exclusion for a player if that player

1. Leaving the water, sitting on the stairs or ladder of the pool or on the sides of the playing field. Unless he's had an accident or an injury. However, the referee must agree to this.

1. The expelled player must swim into his re-entry area without moving the edge of the field.
2. An exclusion lasts until
a) 20s actual playing time has passed;
b) the team of the excluded player has gained clear possession of the ball;
Clear possession means
|. that this team fought the ball fairly;
||. the attacking team put the ball into the defending goalkeeper;
|||. the attacking team scores a goal;
||||. the defending team wins a referee's throw


3. If such an event occurs, the expelled player can re-enter if that expulsion was not his third personal fault .
4. If this was his third personal mistake, he is no longer allowed to take part in the game and has to be replaced if possible. However, this replacement may only occur through the re-entry area if an event as described in 2 occurs.
