Coordinates: 40 ° 18 ′ 45 ″  N , 123 ° 58 ′ 0 ″  W Stratosphere Giant is the name of a coastal redwood tree ( Sequoia sempervirens ). It grows in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California and, with a height of 112.87 meters (2006), was the tallest tree on earth until a few years ago. Hyperion has been recognized as the tallest living treein Redwood National Park at 115.55 msince 2007.

Stratosphere Giant is estimated to be 2000 years old and has a chest height diameter of 519 centimeters. It continues to grow slowly, for example from 112.34 m in August 2000 to 112.56 m in 2002. According to calculations, it could reach a maximum height of 130 m, which is limited by the gravitational force and the flow resistance of the water in the vessels of the tree is. A specimen felled in 1912 reached a height of 115.8 m and a giant Australian eucalyptus reached a measured height of 132.58 m in the 19th century.

Stratosphere Giant was discovered by Chris K. Atkins in 2000. It is possible to “hike” the tree on one of the hiking trails in the Humboldtpark. The location of the tree is 40.35055, -123.97437.
