Strawpoll (English straw: Stroh, poll: Umfrage) refers to short opinion polls on Usenet .

Usenet, created in 1979, is the oldest discussion platform on the Internet. Since millions of people around the world use it every day, the discussion topics are divided into groups (so-called newsgroups ) that can be read individually. The creation or removal of these newsgroups is determined by relatively formal rules. a. Regulate votes, discussion times, etc. A strawpoll is a popular voting concept when there are several groups with different opinions and the general acceptance of a proposal is to be confirmed or rejected. A strawpoll is therefore an "unofficial" vote that does not represent a final decision on Usenet, but rather has an informative character. In addition to straw polls, there are also votes (so-called Call for Votes , CfV for short) after a Request for Discussions (RfD for short), precisely those discussions that can lead to the creation of new groups or the deletion of existing ones.
