Orchard meadow in Liebenhain

The meadow orchards Liebenhain are a protected, extensive natural monument in the area of the municipality of Krummhörn in the Lower Saxony district of Aurich in East Frisia . It bears the number ND AUR 00129.

Description of the area

The extensive natural monument, designated on December 11, 1992, is located east of the L 2 "An der Landstraße" near Loquard , a district of the municipality of Krummhörn. It consists of 40 to 150 year old, rare fruit trees. The district placed the area under protection to preserve the meadow with its sometimes rare, old fruit varieties, their importance for science and natural history, their function as a habitat for adapted animal and plant species, to revitalize the local landscape and their uniqueness in East Frisia. Mapping and identification of the types of fruit is planned.

The district sees treading and feeding damage from overgrazing with cattle, the deforestation of fruit trees and the use of pesticides as special dangers for the orchard meadow.

To counteract these dangers, the orchard should be used extensively . Loss of fruit trees should be replanted, bat and bird boxes installed. In addition, refined, young fruit trees are to be planted.
