Strike (baseball)

Strike in baseball

A strike in baseball is the pitcher thrown ball,

  1. who flies through the strike zone without the batter making a valid hit, or
  2. who is not hit by the batter when attempting a strike (regardless of whether he flies through the strike zone or not), or
  3. who is knocked out of the regular playing field by the batsman ("foul ball").

In all three cases a strike is credited to the batter's account. If three of these strikes occur, the batter is out of the game ( strikeout ). If the pitcher has already scored two strikes, another foul ball does not count as a strike. The batsman is not over then.
