Struthers ligament

The Struthers ligament (Struthers ligament , after the Scottish anatomist John Struthers ) is a rare malformation on the upper arm . It is usually congenital, but can also arise from inflammatory supracondylar processes. It is an additional ligament between the supracondylar process and the epicondyle medialis humeri with an incidence of about 1%. If present, the humeral head of the pronator teres muscle arises in the area of attachment .

The ligament is of clinical importance because the median nerve and the brachial artery pass between it and the humerus . If the space is narrowed, the nerve or artery may be compressed.
